  • About this book.

Now in its 30 th year of continuous publication, this new edition offers a logical progression through renal physiology and pathophysiology. In addition, the anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and pathology of the kidney are covered - making it highly suitable for system based courses. This 5 th edition has been extensively revised and features a wealth of new and widely accepted information about kidney function.

This includes our understanding of the role of the glycocalyx and structural proteins in glomerular filtration; details of tubular transport, tight junctions and paracellular transport; and an update of the loops of Henle functioning. Skip Navigation and go to main content Bestsellers Books.

Principles of renal physiology

Biomedical Engineering. Biochemistry, general. Summary "The strengths of this popular text - its conciseness and logical progression through renal physiology - are retained in this third edition. The text has been updated throughout, and clinical and pathophysiological information has been increased.

Renal Physiology

There have been many advances in renal physiology over these years, a fact demonstrated by a comparison of the index of this new edition with that of 11 years ago. For example, words in the index of this edition which do not appear in the first edition include atrial natriuretic peptide, dopamine, erythropoietin, nitric oxide and prorenin. The accounts of renin synthesis, the actions of atrial natriuretic peptide and the mechanisms of ammonia secretion, have been rewritten and updated.

The presentation of the book for this third edition is also new. The majority of the figures have been redrawn and 'boxes' have been included to present additional material particularly information of clinical relevance , which can be read separately from the main text.
