Devlin Kirk and his hulking, philosopher-sidekick, Bunchcroft, will have no trouble tuning into Parts Unknown. The two are so likable, so intelligent, so moral. Petersburg Times. Rex Burns. However, UR gets far too real when rogue scientists use his father's technology to regenerate a super intelligent dinosaur.
The dinosaur views Adam as his brother, and together they seek to rescue his father from the scientists who have kidnapped him. I didn't find the brotherly relationship between the boy and the dinosaur to be well developed, and I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much as the author's earlier "The Wereling" series. However, this book may appeal to fans of books such as Roland Smith's "Cryptid Hunters".
Oct 29, Rebecca Heywood rated it liked it. Very mediocre. Around the middle of the book, it started to get interesting, but there were some problems. First, there was no character development. They just dove right into the action and drama, so I felt no connection to any of the characters. Second, there was little to no explanation about anything until near the end of the book. Third, this is supposed to be the first in a series of books, but the cliffhanger was a flop. I felt no desire whatsoever to start on the next one.
Fourth, beside Very mediocre. Fourth, besides the author telling me the main character was Scottish, I kept having to remind myself, because there was no hint of accent in his dialogue. I was not pleased with most of this book. However, the Jurassic Parkness of it was appealing as well as the intelligence of the dinosaur. Aug 27, P. I liked this book as Zed was an appealing character who would draw boys in with all the non-stop action, weaponry, and plots of world domination. Mar 27, Jack Lackey rated it really liked it. This was surprisingly a really good book. The reason I say surprisingly is because the beginning was super boring for me. Once you get into the book it becomes one that you will love.
You really feel for Adam because he is going through a big struggle because his dad is missing and he has to do everything. Adam has to go on a very challenging journey, and the action in the book made it seem like it could be a movie. The author thoroughly explains things that are happening and that is what really This was surprisingly a really good book.
The author thoroughly explains things that are happening and that is what really caught my attention and made me want to keep reading the book. I recommend this book to all readers because even though it has a lot of action it has a good story to it also. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Aug 27, Angela rated it it was ok Shelves: middle-grade. This book is like a Hot Pocket. It will likely be devoured, enjoyed and even craved by middle-grade boys, but should be avoided by adults with other options in the freezer. The cover speaks to the reader, in this case, as the story is a fast-paced action adventure with high performance dinosaurs. The better-than-average writing and vocabulary will make this one easy to recommend for reluctant or impatient readers.
When reading this book, I get the feeling that Mr. Cole didn't write this book for This book is like a Hot Pocket. Cole didn't write this book for me. He wrote it for the kids, and that a thirty-something lady wasn't quite his intended audience. I'll be meeting the author in a couple weeks, and maybe I'll have some insights afterward which I'll be happy to share with my goodreads compatriots.
Until then. Sep 28, Caleb Hrabal rated it liked it Shelves: suspense , thrill , adventure. I think the book is pretty interesting, however what I didn't care for was that there were some parts that were too unrealistic. And, there were some unpredictable surprises throughout the story. Do I recommend you read this book? Well it depends because many may be disappointed with a big part of the story. On the other hand, you may get attached to the character and the dinosaur. I don't want explain why and spoil it. But some people may like what happens with the character and the dinosaur a I think the book is pretty interesting, however what I didn't care for was that there were some parts that were too unrealistic.
But some people may like what happens with the character and the dinosaur and some people may not. I personally dislike when this happens in creature books and films. However, I think the audience would appreciate this book. Oct 29, Robbieb7 rated it really liked it. It was a good book that had a lot of acton beginning and end but was kind of bland in the middle between fights mainly him just thinking or going somewhere. It had things that you wouldn't expect to happen. IT sounded really cool and inspirational and had some goriness but not much and was a overall good book.

I didn't really enjoy the first part of the book, but i understand you need to understand some of their life to get into the story. It got better around the 12th chapter, and got very good during the 15th chapter. My favorite part was the last ten chapters of the book. IT would make a good movie though, but was an ok book. The last ten chapters was the most eventful part of the book. Oct 04, Betsy rated it really liked it. One Sentence Review: I deeply regret not getting a chance to officially review this book, since it was fantastic, funny, exciting, and somehow managed to make the idea of a talking, flying, invisible, super-intelligent dinosaur work.
Sep 05, Alvin rated it really liked it. The author of this book is Steve Cole. The genres of this book is fantasy and mystery. The setting of this book is in a small country. The main character is Adam.
Adam is a 13 year old boy and he likes action stuff action genre, fighting. Adam is very nice to innocent people and is very aware to villains. The minor character of this book is Z-Rex Zed. Zed never let Adam go anywhere out of his site because there are a lot of people who are trying to capture Adam. This all began when Adam was at his home. His dad was at work. While a few minutes later, Adam was at his house, and tumbling sounds happened and Adam was terrified. He went down stairs and saw a bus. In there, he saw a bus driver. The sound effects were getting closer and closer.
Adam quickly ran in the bus and told the bus driver to drive as fast as he could. Then, he arrived at a small town and he used a computer to search what was the creature chasing in the library. It was a Z-Rex Zeninthosaurus rex. So, he went to Gray Rock and he saw two men, Bateman and Jonno. They captured Adam in the woods and then the stopping sound came again.
The two men thought that was a gunshot. Adam escaped from that. After the capture, he saw a secret lab and in that lab, there was a man called, Mike Sedona. He was a zoologist. When they were talking, the Z-Rex showed up and he roared to them. But, he talked. Adam was confused, how would a dinosaur talk? For a moment later, Bateman was back and he brought a few men to capture the Z-Rex. It was a battle and Bateman retreated because the place was collapsing. When they left, everything was fine except one, Z-Rex was holding a bomb. When the bomb was nearly exploded, it threw it to the roof and made a hole up top.
Adam thought they were trapped but, the Z-Rex can fly.

I highly recommend this book to people who like to read mystery books.
This book is the best for those people. Aug 22, Sean M rated it liked it. I liked the idea of the book's premise. Bringing back dinosaurs and making them the most superior killing machines is an awesome idea. I always enjoy when a book takes something extinct and tries to reinvent it literally in this case. I thought the Z. Rex was extremely cool. I was a fan of it as a character and I'm going to go ahead and say it was the MAIN character in this book.
I had a hard time relating to any of the human players in this 'game' since they are all very generic caricatures of I liked the idea of the book's premise. I had a hard time relating to any of the human players in this 'game' since they are all very generic caricatures of what a human should be in a book.
Not to say they were BAD, but I didn't get any distinct uniqueness from any of them. They all played their part very well and none of them outshone the Z. Rex in terms of who the book was supposed to be based around in the first place. I had a fun time reading through the book since the chapters weren't dense or too long, and they offered enough action sequences coupled with a bunch of interesting science with biology, regeneration, and the idea of bringing back dinosaurs is always something I find fascinating. Overall I'd recommend the book for an fun, light read that doesn't force too much character development and let's the main character the Z.
Rex really shine. Jan 14, Rowena rated it liked it. This was read as librarian at my local primary school year olds. I find that it is always good to read books coming into the library, in order to find out who they are best for; what level, what pace, what interest. This is a recent donation from a public library. It will be fine for my 11 to 13 year-old readers who are still into dinosaurs, and it may even be of interest to those boys into monster adventures. Jan 17, Bethnoir rated it liked it. I was impressed by the relentless pace, snappy writing and tense plotting in this book.
I didn't have a very high expectation, but it was well written, unendingly exciting and quite desperate at times.

This Book is very good with lots of action throughout the story. It was a good book. All I'm going to say is that the main characters dad goes missing, and it's his job to find him. Why has it taken me so long to read this book? Next to Justine Richards, he is my favorite Doctor Who author. Oh, this is rich! This book is soooo Steve Cole! Look, this book has excitement, suspense, and even a bonding of a sorts.
A boy and his dinosaur and his clone and his dad and a traitor and it goes on and on. If you lime dinosaur adventures, you will love thus book. There is no ave group to consider. Must read it. I could not put it down! Read it through a thunderstorm. I am so ready to read the next two books. Trust me, I regret not reading this book earlier.
Well done Steve and tell Justine and Jacqueline hello from a diehard fan and write on!!! Adam is 14, his dad works for a computer design company, when he gets a new company to pay for his research he leaves for a couple of days, but when he doesn't return Adam starts to worry, then he gets chased by men with guns who clearly mean to hurt him, but more worrying is the dinosaur chasing him. Who should he be more afraid of?
Rex is a highly intelligent dinosaur, he can talk, write, read and logically think situations through. Paired up with Adam they have to save Dad and find out exact Adam is 14, his dad works for a computer design company, when he gets a new company to pay for his research he leaves for a couple of days, but when he doesn't return Adam starts to worry, then he gets chased by men with guns who clearly mean to hurt him, but more worrying is the dinosaur chasing him.
Paired up with Adam they have to save Dad and find out exactly what is going on. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. When I was younger I was mad for dinosaurs so i figured this would be OK. The book starts off really well and gets you right in the action, the scene is set and the characters come to life. I actually really liked Z. Rex himself, he doesn't come across as scary, or intimidating which is usually essential for a dinosaur, but I can feel his intelligence and I suppose it makes him feel more human, so you get a connection to him.
I was hoping he would make it through and get a happy ending. Adam is a cool kid, not afraid to go for it, willing to risk himself for his dad and Z. He doesn't give up no matter what and comes up with different ways round things.

He has the odd moment of self doubt and weakness as all humans do but he always gets back up again. He's a true little action hero in the making. The plot moves quite fast and there are a lot of twists and turns, there is a lot of question about who Adam can trust which makes you question everyone too.
I have to admit I actually really enjoyed the book, there were some bits that didn't quite make sense such as the dinosaur having wings. But the rest was good. I read it quite quickly and wanted to know more, I know there is a sequel so I may have to request that. This would be perfect for year olds, especially boys, a mixture of Jurassic Park, Video Games and adventure. Mar 05, Fin added it. Z-Rex Adam is His dad works for a computer design company.
