I had to have a press conference. I realized I had lived a very reckless life. Here I am supposed to be a big tough guy. There was a period of three or four years when I was out of control. It changed my whole life, and will continue to change it. People need to step up to the plate and be more responsible. From the looks of it I contracted it in the past year, year and a half. He will put me in touch with a doctor in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where I live. That will be the guy I check in with every now and then. Yes my boxing career is over.
At first, it was anger. I was just real guilty. Anger at first, believing it happened I had HIV , and accepting the idea that it did happen.
And then after it sets in, you feel very guilty and very shameful for being so irresponsible. Our generation has totally disregarded our moral values, teachings taught to us by our parents. To treat his HIV infection, Morrison said he was taking antiviral medication, which had reduced his viral load to almost undetectable levels. The bout was fought under unorthodox rules. If either fighter got cut, the bout would go to the scorecards. In , Morrison pleaded guilty to possession of a loaded firearm. In and , Morrison was convicted of Driving While Intoxicated, resulting in treatment with a suspended sentence. In , Morrison claimed a false positive HIV test, and stated his intention to return to the ring in both boxing and Mixed Martial Arts, which he did. After 11 years out of the boxing ring, Morrison returned to the ring in West Virginia in February , stopping John Castle in the second round of their scheduled four rounder.
The bout had a prefight stipulation preventing Stover from grappling. Morrison was also allowed to wear shoes, which is normally not allowed in MMA competition. In , he told me he was still having unprotected sex with his first wife. I'm not sure how many wives he ended up with I lost count after the fourth , but nothing ever changed. As far as Tommy was concerned, his HIV never existed. He searched high and low for rogue doctors who would assure him he was fine, who would clear him to go back to boxing.
He was nothing without boxing, nothing without sex -- so he looked the other way. His family staged an intervention to get him back on meds, but he cursed at them and said, "I will lay down and die before I take any drugs. Every day, I was like, 'God, what do I do? And then I started getting all these books in the mail, and they all said, 'Don't worry about it. Just live your life. Morrison was a distant relative of John Wayne. But the problem was he lived his whole life like he was in the Wild West.

And his father gave him his first woman -- at a strip club when Tommy was They entered him, as an eighth-grader, in "tough man" contests. In other words, his parents essentially signed him up for bar fights. That's how he made his name. His last wife was Trisha "The Duchess" Morrison, a Britishwoman who, according to Morrison's family, was by his side for over a year as he was moved from secret location to secret location. She denies that Morrison was ever HIV-positive and said he died from respiratory problems.
He also contracted Miller Fisher syndrome, his wife says, following complications after a surgeon left a foot strip of surgical gauze in his chest during an operation to remove a faulty pectoral muscle implant. It was an omission that explains how good his body looked as his face had sagged and collapsed over the last few years.
